The team is building a protocol to organize and compensate human annotators (or "AI workers") across the globe — including part-time workers, skilled workers, and even small businesses — more efficiently than centralized companies. Here are a few of the ways we think encryption will give Sapien the edge it needs in this area:
Global network: Data labeling is a global industry, and large corporations (mostly in the San Francisco Bay Area) often set up branches in Asia, recruit local workers, and then sell the labeled data to customers around the world – creating friction when switching between different banking, legal, and labor systems. An Internet-based protocol is the smoothest platform for these different parties to interact. Sapien makes it easy to expand any new geography for clients or annotators, including bringing together skilled workers from around the globe to complete niche and specialized tasks.
Optimize the cost structure: Sapien will use crypto tracks and stablecoins to process all payments, and rely on protocols for coordination rather than manual management as much as possible. These innovations have enabled it to automate some of the operational redundancies that are currently plaguing the industry, thereby reducing costs.
Token incentives: Many new annotation networks struggle in the early stages of development, but as a tokenized marketplace, Sapien can use tokens to incentivize supply on a larger scale. Sapien can also leverage rewards and their on-chain reputation system to design better incentives to improve the accuracy of annotated data – they have reported 99% accuracy so far. Finally, assigning network value and ownership should incentivize more skilled workers to join, as it allows them to potentially reap the benefits of network development.
With these innovations, we are confident that Sapien will be able to grow faster than its competitors while providing a more cost-effective service. This model is still experimental, but if executed correctly, it could revolutionize the entire industry.
